Leading into the Torbole Youth Foiling Gold Cup the team had another training block in the calendar. The team lineup for training was Zac Blomeley, Cas Van Dongen (coach), Sophie Otter, Hebe Hemming, and Scipio Houtman.
Lake Garda has been the perfect venue for our team training and has allowed for so many good days on the water, providing us with a range of conditions and some good challenges in avoiding windsurfers, kitesurfers, and other sailing vessels.
This training block started with Cas, Zac, Soph, and Hebe for the first few days, allowing for some much-needed consolidation of our lessons from Slovenia. Sophie and Hebe had only been in the boat for 10 days at this point, so we were focused on progressing from applying the basics to more advanced understanding and skill-building. Alongside this, the team ran workout sessions, making sure our bodies were warmed up before a big day of sailing, and took time to decompress afterwards, enjoying team dinners and thorough debriefs with our GoPro footage.
Unfortunately Hebe had to fly home for some Hurricane racing (a 2 person catamaran), but we timed this with the arrival of Scipio. This was exciting as it really pushed the team. Scipio came in without really knowing the level of the team and he pushed us all to perform at the very top level, teaching Sophie new concepts and making us all work super hard.
This preparation block was perfect going into our next event and it created a platform from which the team could keep growing.
Just wanted to say thank you to Cas and Scipio for pushing the team over this training block; I think we're all excited to see what we can achieve! Also big well done to Sophie and Hebe for pushing hard, keeping the right attitude, and for swiftly stepping up to that next level.
Onto the next event...
